Windows on Australia

When I started this blog I’d just finished development on a small project in Django for Monash University Translation and Interpreting Studies titled Windows on Australia – a “research project exploring the translation … of Australian literature in various languages.”

Towards the end I had the pleasure of visiting the AustLit mob at University of Queensland as we were negotiating a merging of data sets.

I’ve not worked for either group for six months but I swung by their sites yesterday to see how it was all going, and was very pleased to see that WoA had finally been integrated with the AustLit site. Unfortunately, you need to be a subscriber or something to see the content, but from my understanding of discussions with the people running AustLit, big changes are afoot. Including, but not limited to, opening the site up to the public and a massively improved CMS – I hope these projects wrap up soon as I’m looking forward to diving in!

For those interested, the Windows on Australia dataset is still available publically.
