Crowdsourcing translation – the next big thing after wikipedia? – 16/12/2010

Boingboing is reporting on another crowdsourcing effort: Translated.by: crowdsourced volunteer translations to Eastern Euro languages. Flossmanuals are doing it, pootle and 99translations are doing it…open subtitles…lots of small projects, obviously there’s a desire to build this type of software, and a desire to contribute – are translations the next wikipedia in terms of collective global effort?
